Halloween

I think I voiced my displeasure with this even last year so I am going to try and not be repetitive while I still make a few points.
  • Asking scary dressed up strangers for candy door to door doesn't sound good...does it?
  • Don't get me started on the H1N1 possibilities that exist this year regarding candies
  • Dental hygiene anyone? Some one I know says let them go nuts for a few days and then it's all gone and you aren't dealing with it until Christmas and beyond. (I think she's right...it makes sense...or at least as much sense as asking for candy door to door at night).
  • I personally do NOT enjoy dressing up... not like that...but maybe that's just because I am never the one with the best costume, which probably stems from my dislike of dressing up...hhmmm a cycle?
  • Boys costumes at a certain age in this town unless home made are scary creepy bloody crap.
  • Boys costumes under the size 8 threshold are snug fitting super heroes or other relatively simple things...made of the cheapest Chinese polyester in the world, poor quality and there is no room (even in the largest one) for my 4 year old to fit a warm set of clothes or snow suit underneath them. However since I don't enjoy the dress up I don't make many efforts to remedy this with a home made costume...and how does one home make with out a sewing machine, let alone without creative skill.
  • Can you tell I am a wee bit cranky?

Obviously I will post pictures later of how my children are going out tonight.

things on my mind

  • It is snowing (more than is acceptable for me at this time of year)
  • I helped with Gabriel's class yesterday and it was great to have conversation time with 7 year old girls in french...absolutely something I will do again.
  • The positive feedback from most people about it is also encouraging.
  • I say most people because Mrs. Negative (I've mentioned her before) actually added 3 negative comments about it...and now that I have told you that those of you who are on my fb and read this can try and figure out who she is.
  • The Secretary wasn't at the last PAC mtg and I took the minutes and had them typed within the week, I sent them to her to forward because it's her job and it's been a week and she hasn't and I think that it's making me look as bad as her like they haven't been done or something. I asked her about it and she evaded me...like what is the big deal lady, just send them via email to everyone on the list already?
  • I was in charge of a fundraiser at the beginning of October (the magazine subscription one), I completed all the work and asked the fundraising co-coordinator (who was on vacation and not able to look after it himself) to just double check that I had done the math correctly before we write the cheque and that was a week ago and he hasn't gotten back to me...the longer he takes, the later our magazines will be arriving to the people who are supporting the school with their subscriptions, which I think makes me look bad....bad business-ish.
  • I am hosting a pampered chef party so if you want anything feel free to order through me or come to the party if you are in the area
  • I haven't hosted a home party since moving here and the people here seem to be way less into it than the people in Cloverdale.

I am working on something... it's in the drafts folder and instead of finishing last night I completely forgot that I had started it and didn't remember until now; now isn't enough time before taking kids to school to finish it....even if I could get the thought train back on the track...LOL

I know my kid(s)

Last week at Gabriels Parent Teacher Interview I didn't hear anything I didn't already know. Some of those things I am proud of and some of them not as much. In other news some people don't have a clue who my child is. The teacher has an excellent grasp and I really like her and the opportunities that she is giving me to practice my french and work with the kids in the class.

Gabriel is an older brother. He has a strong independent personality. He knows how to express himself. He thinks he is the boss.

I recently overheard someone talking about my child and I guess they had no idea I might over hear them, or maybe they didn't know I was his mother, or maybe they were projecting their own child's behaviour on to mine, maybe they have problems in their lives that I don't understand (nor do I care to) and to feel better about themselves they need to put down my kid.

The accusation of the other person made me sputter and laugh. It couldn't be further from the truth, really it couldn't. I wonder if this person even knows the correct meaning of the word that they used. Maybe I should discreetly give them a dictionary with that word highlighted? (just kidding). I have since told the story to a few other people who know my child, like his grandparents and a friend of mine who knows him well and they all laughed before I could finish telling them because they also know that it isn't true. It was/is laughable because it doesn't even offend me because they are so far off base and all it would take is some time with my child to know that they are mistaken.
At least I know my kid.

PAC

Last night I compared my PAC experience to being on survivor. Not that I will get voted off or anything like that...they are lucky I am there. Just in the scheming for your own benefit kind of way. Not manipulative either...just that everyone ha their own ideas and 'agendas' After tonight I am pretty sure the 'team' will be split into 2 distinct camps...only thing is it would really be better if we could work together and accomplish more than one goal. The thing is it comes down to money. Mostly we are ok for this year but as I mentioned in a previous post our funding has been cut. I partly feel like telling the fence story and partly think that if you've made it this far into my post you are doing well enough to be saved from that. Maybe I should have pictures for it.?

I think it might be best to wait and write more after the meeting tonight...

This is coming from my phone, again. Not because its cool (although it is cool) but because my computer couldn't find the internet. I was being smart and restarting it and now it is on a screen that doesn't do anything. My computer person is having a sleep in and my kids are being good, all I want to do is have some computer and coffee time so now I have to settle for this. Writing a post from my phone could be fun but it isn't a fraction of what I really wanted to do...read blogs, facebook, harvest my farm on facebook, and most importantly post secret! :(

Google

What was the most recent thing you googled? (I can't believe that's a verb...google LOL)
Mine was: easiest way to get pomegranate seeds out.
Seems like google never fails me.

Toys

I haven't spent more that 2 minutes trying to decide if I am going to write something and post it or not and yet here I am tapping away at the keys with that as my title so here it goes with little or no forethought (is that a word?)
A friend would like to have my family over for dinner with her family and I am delighted at the opportunity since they used to live down the street and now live further away than that. Also there are boys that match in age which is a nice change for Gabriel when it comes to who his parents hang out with. But she said (in her email) ' I am worried the boys would be bored though!!! We do not have half the toys you do!! Not even 1/8th!! ' Which has got me to thinking...yes my boys do have lots of toys there really isn't any denying that but.... they don't have an Xbox or a Wii, they don't have a TV in their room (over my dead body!), they aren't even allowed to be on the computer for more than 20mins a day and they have to practice their printing before that is allowed too. Now I don't think that I am really comparing apples to oranges here and I am not sure that a room full of legos, trucks, ninja turtles, knights and other super action heroes is better than Wii (haha) but it is my choice and my preference to have them play in that room with their imaginations and each other than watch a TV, have unlimited computer access (for a 6 and 8 year old) and play relatively mindless (although fun)video games.
Obviously I am right and the other people of the world are wrong...right?
What I mean to say is that there is a balance that I seek and we can be friends and eat dinner and play cards even if there is a TV in your 6year old's bedroom.

Picture day

This was his choice of shirt for picture day. Button down white with collar. A boy after my heart. Now if only he could smile naturally.

Smooth Mornings

Typically mornings over here are filled with the following in no particular order:

  • Eat your breakfast!
  • Leave your brother alone!
  • Get dressed! (Repeats a million times)
  • Listen to me!
  • An argument between my eldest and his father
  • Me making lunches and snacks for school (and work lately...don't get me started about what kind of wife I have become or how I enjoy it)
  • Coffee not being made for me
  • Sometimes it gets made for me but I don't get to drink it until it's in a travel mug and we are leaving (approx 1hr45mins after I get up and want/need coffee)

Yesterday and today Chris has been out of town for work (and he will continues to be tomorrow), my mornings have been:

  • On time
  • I am drinking coffee on the computer at 7...so what does that tell you?
  • Kids are fighting to the ordinary degree
  • Lunches are made
  • Kids are dressed
  • 'Chores' are getting done by people who have responsibilities

Apparently the key is to not have someone else in my bed or my kitchen. LOL. Besides I don't miss him until about 4:30/5:30 which is when I 'miss' him on any regular day because my day has been long and they are making me crazy!!!

Have you ever

Been offended? No, anonymous this isn't about you...get over yourself.
This is about the mail. That's right the mail. Not the mail delivery person or the post office. The mail.
Today I received borderline offensive mail. It was addressed to me, it looked like coupons or something, The wasn't a usual 'proctor and gamble' thing but it looked similar and had no return address. It was for a product. I think I would like my readers to guess...ooohh I might even send you a prize if you are right.
A few clues: For women only... I won't ever use it... I don't need to...
I will see where your guesses lead you and if you need more clues I will add them.
