a bit of everything, saying not much at all

I love Post Secret.
I have thoughts of blogging and then I don't.
I have not been looking after me in my free time. My time is never really free btw.
I met a new friend of my kids yesterday (2 brothers the same ages as my 2 boys), their mom seems really nice. The older one E is in Gabriels reading group at school and I now know without a doubt that this is the most advanced group that the teacher has in her class. There is actually a bit more to this... remember how a few weeks ago I went with friends to their condo at the local ski hill? Well the boy of that family is 'best friends' with E that I met yesterday, and when at the condo I asked the mom what she could tell me about them and their family because I don't know them etc. and she told me they had E up at the condo with them one time over the summer and she found E to be a bit manipulative, controlling (of her child) and inanimate (not just shy or quiet but she said she thought maybe he was medicated, or should be medicated). In his own home with both my kids and his brother, his mom and I drinking water in the kitchen I didn't notice anything that made me think the things A had told me. E's mom T says he is very shy...I saw that and can see how spending the weekend with your best friends family would lock him up verbally. I am still watching this one closely though. I am happy to report that I didn't let someone else thoughts and feelings on the situation cloud my judgement yay for making up my own opinion!
You should know too that although I say I just met him yesterday that I 'know' a large percentage of the 325 students in my kids school and I am very familiar with all of the students in each of their classes, I also know who's parents are around and who's aren't...which means I know most of their names and family groupings also, you know who has siblings etc.
Oh dear I need a life...or maybe this is my life and that's ok.

So many things

Trust me when I say in the last 10 days there have been so many things that I have been meaning to blog about but it has been so busy that it just hasn't happened until now. I am in my happy place right now with coffee and the computer. The kids are having Saturday morning cartoons. Like I said I had big long post for most of this but I think bullet points is going to be the best way so that I don't jump all over the map on eleventysevenhundred tangents.
  • Chris and I we treated to a night away from home for the Wedding of a dear friend in North Vancouver. It was lovely. We stayed in the spare room of a friends apartment where we heard the traffic on the street, neighbours fight about drinking and our friends cats clawing at the door. The bed was great for me (warm and squishy) not so great for Chris.
  • After the wedding we brought my mom home with us. Road trip with mom is not a big deal (somewhat surprising to Chris)
  • I had a great time with my mom making turkey dinner and a million different variations of Turkey soup. I enjoy her company and even though the kitchen is always a mess when she is done having food ready is a HUGE bonus. Don't get me wrong she doesn't become the chef while she is here but it is nice to have some help in that area. I try to keep up with her dish output by constantly doing washing dishes.
  • At the school we are now on our second fundraiser which is magazine subscriptions if you are interested you can buy them online at http://www.ccrp.ca/ and type in the school name so we get credit.
  • More about the school... They accidentally removed some perfectly good monkey bars which is why we are mainly fundraising for new ones. I feel like I work at the school and that's ok with me, most days.
  • Today the kids and I are headed to Sun Peaks for the night with some friends from the school to stay at their place.
  • This past week I had parent teacher interviews with each of their teachers and am proud to say that my children are a delight to have in class. Remember it's not a contest or a competition between children, everyone is different, Gabriel exceeds in reading and speaking IN FRENCH! :) Michael follows instructions in french to do his work and does well independently; he only needs to be reminded once in a while to let go of his best friend Kaito.
  • I might be getting a small day job...But I haven't updated my resume since 2004.
  • I have a PAC meeting on Tuesday and the Chairperson has been out of town for 10 days, sick for the previous 10 so I have no idea what she wants on the agenda and I think she will be so out of the loop that there is barely a point in asking her. This is disappointing for me. Most people now think that I am the chairperson, which is ok but I think maybe I am doing too much and need to back off so that other people can hang themselves with the rope or swim on their own...you know?
  • My mom brought me some Paul Frank PJ pants and they are fun to own.
  • While in NV for the wedding a tooth of mine that is scheduled for work in January cracked and the piece fell out in my chewing gum, then fell into the gravel. Emergency work is 100% covered in my dental plan but the pain I am having now is on the other side (also scheduled for Jan) from over compensating and it's a whole big dental drama...I have good extended but I don't have the cash for my portion until the Health Spending goes into the account in Jan. My teeth are crappy, it's all genetic. Anyone wishing to donate to my dental fund please contact me directly...boo :(
  • I did have the chance to visit with my nephew Liam when I went to pick up my mom on Sunday morning and he is really cute and I wish I could see him every day.
  • Gabriel would like to be Harry Potter for Halloween...I think we can do this relatively inexpensively.
  • Michael is still all over the map about what to be for Halloween, I need to get him to narrow it down...hopefully to something we have or can make for free or cheap.
  • I had a typo, I fixed it but now when I preview the post the whole thing near that word is effed up and I can't fix it ...argh!

Last Night

It is first thing in the morning. What on earth could I have to blog about so urgently?
Last night I went to bed at 10:45pm after watching my Sunday night show like always. I stayed awake in bed thinking about my weeks to do list for a while tossed and turned, regretted my afternoon nap and finally passed put after having last looked at the clock at 12:02am. I was woken abruptly by the doorbell at 12:21am, thought 'wtf?' and then it rang again. At which point Chris put some sweats on and went to answer it. I waited upstairs and listened with concern as I heard the bellringer and my dear husband go into the garage and knock on the door of my tenant. Then Chris came up and got his phone to call and wake Tenant, once Tenant was up and at the door attending to his late night guest Chris came in locked the door and came to bed where we briefly and quietly discussed the situation. Bellringer says he left his keys with Tenant by mistake earlier and couldn't get into his home, needed his keys from Tenant, but also claimed not to have Tenants phone number to call and ask for them or even to have a cell phone to do the calling. In the middle of the night when you are asleep this seems plausible; In the morning it does not. Chris tells me that Tenant did not let Bellringer into the apartment.
What's wrong with this picture? Just about everything. Questions currently in my head are:
  • If you have actually been in someones home as an invited guest, why wouldn't you have their phone number?
  • What makes Bellringer think that it is ok to ring my door bell at 12:20 AM? Try knocking on windows downstairs...if you have been in the apt. then you know that it is not connected to the people upstairs, and you may even know which window is the bedroom where Tenant is sleeping.
  • If you had been an invited guest into someones home and forgotten your keys in there then why in the middle of the night would you not be let in when you come to retrieve them?
After that fiasco I spent another hour trying to get to sleep thinking about these things, then Michael came in and needed a snuggle around 2am. I snuggled him and every time I moved he called out 'no momma' so I quit trying to stay awake and sneak out and called it a night in his bed. The 25 year old wooden bunk bed is as sturdy as it ever was but man does it squeak ALOT.
I think a nap is in order for today...or more coffee than usual.
