April has sucked.

Yes it's true I have lived through another 'busy' season with Chris' work and  there are only a few days left in the wretched month and it should all be over. Except that it won't be. Because there has been a shitstorm, and the shit is just beginning to settle.
I would like to be perfectly clear though, I didn't realize how horrible this month was until I sat down to think about it and I am still trying really hard not to let it get me down.
This is a list of the things that created the storm:

  • Our tenants gave their 1 months notice even though they had signed a one year lease (leaving 2 months early)
  • When they were moving their things they discovered a plumbing situation that involved my upstairs shower leaking through to their ceiling and on their stuff
  • The plumbing situation required a professional to come in
  • The market for renters in this town is so university based that has made finding new tenants stressful
  • The brake light in my van came on and wouldn't go off
  • I got a lay-off work notice which may last a month or so.
  • Chris' clutch in the GLI went
  • In an effort to improve something electrical we had no lights for a day at home
  • the drivers side sliding door doesn't lock...how long has that been going on un-noticed

The things that I was thinking of that made it so I didn't notice the storm:
  • I love my job
  • My kids are healthy
  • I love my vacuum cleaner (seriously)
  • I lost a couple pounds
  • I got a great hair style that people compliment me on
  • I went for a pedicure, so my toes are pretty
  • I'm going to run 5K tomorrow with the kids and I know I can do it
  • At least we didn't have to call an electrician and we worked it out
  • We did manage to find tenants
  • I do good work at work and I know they will call me back as soon as they can
  • The GLI clutch is $1000 less than the first guy quoted
  • The brakes in the van aren't broken, just the light/sensor
  • There is wine in the fridge and food in the cupboard
  • Girl guide cookies
I've never really been a glass half full kind of person so when I looked and saw that it was really only half empty it took some wind outta my sails. But it's ok I'm going to suck it up and just keep swimming.

My job

Today is Easter Monday. Which is a lame excuse for people to take an extra day off, really. Anyway, due to the fact that the kids are home from school and I feel like I have used up all the babysitting favors I could ask for, I am home from work. I also booked a dentist appointment. Since I am here I thought I would talk about my job.
I love my job. The people I work for and the people I work with (mostly) are great.
I am an ICT, Inventory Control Technician. I work in a very BIG warehouse with tonnes of clothing and sporting goods. I probably shouldn't list all the brands here but let me just tell you they are amazing!
I do a variety of jobs within the warehouse, I pick, pack and repack. Picking is when you receive and order from say, a store, and you follow the computer around getting the items it asks for and put them into a box, to send to the store. Packing is when you take that box for the store and put shipping labels on it and send it away (you also have to pack it up tight for travel). Repacking is when you get the boxes from say, China, and you take the product out and put it into a container that better fits on the selves in the warehouse. You also double check that there is the correct amount in the original container.
I like my job so much because my only responsibility is for me, and for what I do. I do not make decisions (other than what size box to use). I do not have to look after other people. I do not have any part of work that can come home with me and haunt me. I do not have to be nice to customers or the public.I can swear and nobody cares. I get lots of exercise walking around the gigantic warehouse (I got a pedometer and I average 15,000 steps/day). I don't have to wear a uniform, or dress clothes, I wear jeans, a t-shirt that I have had since high school or that was given to me for free and steel toed boots. As it gets hotter (soon) I will wear shorts and a tank top.
My shift is perfect for me. Monday to Friday, 9am-2pm, it is called the mommy shift. I can drop off my kids, I can pick up my kids and I get paid in between.
I like the people I work with, because they are funny. We can joke and laugh together. They are understanding of my mistakes (which are few and far between). Someone at work laughs and it echos beautifully into the racking. Some people whistle and you know they are coming. Some people ask for me to work in their department and it's nice to feel needed/wanted by someone other than a child who needs more food. (no offence to my kids). The people that I work with are so varied that we can talk about lots of things, other than parenting and children which have been my primary topics for the last 9 years. It 's nice.
I love my job.

Nope it's not just my name that I am uptight about spelling. I am uptight about all spelling. It's just how I am. If I were better at grammar stuff I'd be anal about that too. I wonder if grammar can be a hobby so that I can improve upon mine? LOL

A pet peeve

I have tons of happy things to blog about and I am planning on blogging at least weekly to get them all out.
In the mean time I would just like to tell whomever is reading this that...If you know me, If you are on my facebook then you should be capable of spelling my name correctly, since it is at the top of the page, or in the header of the personal message and IF it's a typo that's ok  if you were drunk when you were writing it that's ok too...but when you clearly cannot be bothered to confirm the spelling of my name that's really lame, and annoying and I might be tempted to do it back to you on purpose. Because I can be like that.
